Each of the four properties here is a hotel first: rooms, restaurants, meeting and event space, and in most cases a theatre. A gaming floor is one feature of the building among several, and these entries treat it that way.

Montreal Casino & Hotel

Expo-era pavilions on an island, a short drive from downtown.

The property is best known for its home on Île Notre-Dame, where the casino occupies pavilions built for Expo 67 and reworked for their present use. As a hotel it is a straightforward city proposition: rooms, meeting space, restaurants and a river setting minutes from central Montreal.

The gaming floor is one element of the complex rather than its whole. Around it sit dining rooms at several price levels and a performance space used for touring shows.

The surrounding parkland is open year-round and is the reason a good number of guests are on the island at all.

Fallsview Casino Resort

A full resort hotel placed for its view of the falls.

Fallsview stands on the escarpment above the Horseshoe Falls, and the view is the reason the building is where it is. It functions as a full resort hotel: guest rooms, a spa, a theatre, and a run of restaurants and cafes along the upper levels.

The gaming floor is one part of a much larger interior, connected by walkways to the streets of the tourist district below.

Many guests use the hotel simply as a base for the falls themselves rather than for anything indoors, and the building is planned for that.

River Rock Casino Resort

A riverside resort next to the airport, with a large show theatre.

River Rock sits on the Fraser River in Richmond, beside a marina and close to Vancouver's airport, which makes it a common first or last night for travellers passing through the region.

The hotel side is substantial, with a large show theatre and a conference floor, and its gaming rooms occupy one wing of the complex rather than its centre.

Guests arriving by transit reach it in minutes on the Canada Line, and the riverside walk outside is the quieter half of the property.

Casino Rama Resort

A rural resort in lakes country, with a concert hall at its centre.

Casino Rama stands on Chippewas of Rama First Nation land near Orillia, in the lakes country north of Toronto. It is a resort hotel in the fuller sense: rooms, a spa, several restaurants, and a large entertainment centre that hosts touring concerts through the year.

The gaming floor is the best-known part of the property, but the resort is used just as often as a weekend base for the lakes around it.

The setting is rural, and the scale of the buildings reads differently for it than the same square footage would in a city.
